Let's talk flash triggers - Elinchrom (HSS) High Speed sync trigger

I agonised over what strobes to get to go with my Canon 6D mark II and finally settled on the Elinchrom D-Lite RX 4/4 Softbox To Go set.

In purchasing the set in 2021 it included an Elinchrom skyport trigger. This trigger is a fantastic introduction into using strobes, however there was a frustration for me I did not realise on purchasing.

In my cosy studio it was a real challenge to shoot with a wide open aperture......

I am first and foremost a newborn photographer who lives in the world of wide open aperture. I want lens blur and small details in a picture so this presented me with an issue.

Standard Skyport on my Canon 6D is 160th shutter max!

There was no high speed sync with my camera so I needed to shoot at an aperture of 22 and ISO of 100 and bounce the light, although my results at these settings for family shots gave real clarity everytime, I went back to the drawing board pretty quickly.

This trigger allows me to go to my max shutter speed and fire the strobes.

There is still so much to learn, but for now I am exploring how to shoot wide open again without sunlight, a challenge, but an enjoyable one.

More blogs to come and example images.
